Forging the Yellowhammer Network of Women in the Mathematical Sciences

Welcome

The Department of Mathematics, in collaboration with the UA student chapter of Association for Women in Mathematics, is delighted to host the Workshop for Forging the Yellowhammer Network of Women in the Mathematical Sciences. This day-long event will bring together women and female-identifying graduate students and faculty working in Alabama (the Yellowhammer state) to provide field-specific professional development and mentoring.

In particular, the workshop seeks to:

  • Distribute information on opportunities geared at providing support for individuals who identify as a gender minority in the mathematical sciences.
  • Provide opportunities for participants to explore how their gender expression shapes their professional experiences in the mathematical sciences.
  • Begin forging a sustainable network of women and female-identifying faculty members in Alabama that can offer support, mentoring, and collaborations to participating individuals.

This event will take place on February 12, 2022.

In addition, during the Fall 2021 semester,  we will be hosting virtual peer mentoring groups for graduate students! Information on these sessions can be
