This year, the Department of Mathematics celebrated an increased number of minority students, welcoming a class of graduate students that included four women and eight black students, well above the national average. Because of their success in welcoming and retaining minority students, the department was awarded this year’s Departmental Diversity Award from the College of Arts and Sciences.
