Duc Nguyen Joins Research University Faculty

Mathematics PhD alumnus Dr. Duc Nguyen has joined the faculty of the Department of Mathematics at the University of Kentucky as a tenure-track assistant professor effective August 2020. Dr. Nguyen received his PhD from UA in 2015 under the supervision of Dr. Shan Zhao. From 2015 to 2020 he worked at Michigan State University, first as a postdoc and then as a fixed-term faculty member. According to his homepage, https://ddnguyen.org, he has published 23 research papers and received research grants from industry and state funding agencies. He is well-known for Drug Design Data Resource (D3R) Grand Challenges, https://drugdesigndata.org, an annual worldwide blind prediction competition series to promote the novel technologies for computer-aided drug design (CADD), where he has consistently been a top performer. While at UA Dr. Nguyen received many awards, including the Ainsworth Fellowship, the Henry Miller Fellowship, the Department of Mathematics Outstanding Research Award, and the College of Arts & Sciences Outstanding Dissertation Award. His career achievements speak volumes about the quality of our PhD program.
