Mathematics Fall Courses & COVID-19 FAQs

The Department of Mathematics has been working hard this summer to provide the best instruction with the maximum amount of Student-Instructor interactions available within the guidelines to protect the health and safety of our faculty and students. We are continuing to make adjustments and individual faculty are in the process of finalizing their syllabi in order to provide the most up to date information available.

The syllabi for the math courses should be finalized by early August, as we continue to receive information about policies and standards from the administration and new tools become available to make the delivery of the coursework better.

We would like to provide you some of the answers to your most frequently asked questions. We are still making adjustments to our courses and so some details may change.

·      What is the difference between the different instructional types?

  • Face-to-face (FA)

These courses are taught in a classroom, face-to-face with your instructor.

  • Interactive audio/video course (AV)

These courses are taught remotely with real-time online class meetings with the instructor. The class will meet at a designated time with two-way exchange capabilities between the instructor and students. The tests will be taken on campus in a proctored setting, unless specified otherwise in the course syllabus.

  • Hybrid (HY)

A hybrid course includes both face-to-face interactions and online teaching components and learning activities. The internet-delivered components reduce the time traditionally spent in the face-to-face portion of the course, but you will still have the opportunity for face-to-face interactions with your instructor. Most of these courses will alternate which students are in the classroom and which students connect online.

  • Internet (IN)

Internet course content is strictly delivered online. Some proctored exams may be required, but there are no other requirements that are place-bound. Regular interactions between you and your instructor are a part of the teaching and learning process online.

·      Will there be tutoring available?

The Math Technology Learning Center (MTLC) tutoring is using zoom to conduct free online tutoring this fall for MATH 005, MATH 100, MATH 110, MATH 112, MATH 113, MATH 115, MATH 121, MATH 125, MATH 126, and MATH 227. The instructions for how to connect to the online tutoring will be found in your course syllabus. We have been using the online tutoring platform throughout the summer and students are finding it to be very helpful.
