The Department of Mathematics hosted its first ever Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program. The program focused on Topology: Knots, 3- and 4-manifolds. Dr. Bulent Tosun and Dr. Subhankar Dey mentored 4 students, who were selected from a nationwide search, for a 6 week period from June 6-July 15. These students were Veronica King (UT Austin), Nicolas Fontova (University of Georgia Athens), Colby Shaw (Georgia Institute of Technology), Audrick Pyronneau (University of West Alabama). The program included mini courses, original research problems, colloquium talks and professional development activities. The student presented their research findings at a poster session at Georgia Tech on Wednesday July 20, 2022.
