Toai Luong, who received his PhD from the Math Department in 2022, under the direction of Professor Shibin Dai, and is currently a postdoc at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, has been selected as this year’s recipient of The University of Alabama Outstanding Dissertation Award for his work entitled, “The Mathematical Modeling and Analysis of Complex Structures in Materials Sciences”.

In the opinion of the review committee, comprised of emeritus faculty from The University of Alabama, his work exemplifies the research skill, independent thought, and ability to interpret and analyze information in the intelligent and insightful manner that one would expect of the winner of one of the University’s premier graduate student awards.
